Commonly known as Cinnamon Myrtle, the leaves of this pretty flowering shrub give off a cinnamon fragrance when rubbed or crushed. Used fresh or dried, they may be used as a substitute for conventional cinnamon to flavour a variety of sweet and savoury dishes. Steeped in hot water, they also make a lovely herbal tea.
Delicate creamy-white flowers bloom in Summer as well as sporadically throughout the year, attracting birds and other pollinators. It will grow well in most soils, and is tolerant of dry periods. Grows best in full sun, but can also tolerate part-shade or full shade. Features naturally dense foliage, making it an effective hedging screen, windbreak or shade tree.
